I have been trying to do my part to save the world.  I’ve been trying many things like not trying not to use plastic straws, use reusable where I can, and now, getting my produce from the Imperfect Produce box.

I had been wanting to do this for a while, but Imperfect Produce didn’t serve my area.  I had signed up and waited for more than a year and I finally got the email a month ago that they were finally serving my area and I was so excited!

Short story is, I love this box!  I am a huge fan of boxes that are delivered to your front door and stuff that makes me have to do less.  I am not a huge vegetable or fruit eater, even though I would like to, so I thought that this box would encourage me to start eating healthier.

What is Imperfect Produce?

Imperfect Produce aims to reduce food waste that farms and supermarkets produce by adopting all the “ugly” produce that supermarkets would either throw away or send away and sends it to customers at a discounted price.   You can choose between small, medium, and large boxes and how often you get the boxes.  I chose a medium box at every other week until I feel like I can use all the produce to manage once a week.

What I love about Imperfect Produce

My first Imperfect Produce Box!

Where to start.  I love that you can customize your produce box the Friday before everything is delivered!  You can empty out the whole order and just add stuff that you want.  You can choose between organic or conventional fruits, it tells you where the fruit or vegetable has come from and the reason why they are in the box.  Plus, they deliver it to your door so you don’t have to make a special trip out to get them (although I totally would if I had to).  I feel like there are tons of companies like this that taunt you with the ideal of stopping food waste or saving the planet for the low cost of expensive!  But, Imperfect Produce offers a program where those who are on food assistance can get a discount!  Did I mention that Imperfect Produce will send you a text message after your box has been delivered?  It is really nice considering I have twelve kids inside screaming their heads off so most of the time I don’t hear anyone at the door.

In Summary:

  • You can customize your box every Friday (before your box gets there)
  • You can choose between organic and conventional produce
  • You can see why it has been rejected and where it is from
  • It offers produce at a lower cost than stores
  • It is a program that is made affordable to everyone!
  • It is delivered to your doorstep!

What I don’t love about Imperfect Produce

Imperfect Produce gives you a time frame when your produce will be delivered.

Okay, I will be honest with you, I really had to struggle with this section.  There isn’t much that I don’t like about Imperfect Produce.  Their mission and company is great and I am all for cheap produce because let’s face it, it’s really expensive.

I believe the only thing that I don’t like about Imperfect Produce is their boxes aren’t insulated like a standard food box would be.  I am assuming it’s so that everything is 100% recyclable, but if you aren’t home and you get the text, you better get home soon to make sure everything is still cold and in the fridge.  I feel like once the colder weather hits, it won’t be so bad because cold.  Please know, that they refrigerate the produce on its way to you!

What you can do is write delivery notes via your account on their website so you can make sure they put it in a place that’s free from animals, rain, or what have you.  I have them put it on my wicker chair outside my house because I have kids and cats always on the front porch.

All in all…

For me, the negatives with the Imperfect Produce box definitely does not change my decision to keep subscribing to it.  It is so worth it.  I feel great knowing that I am reducing food waste and I don’t mind that my produce is a little ugly (it has charm).  If you use my link, you can get $10 towards your box!  That’s a lot of produce!  Be sure to check it out and tell me what you think!
