In honor of “Throwback Thursday” and in hopes of clearing out some of my drafts, I give you one of the first blog posts I had ever written.
I remember having a conversation with my friends comparing kids and pets. My friend said that having a pet is a great way to see if you are ready to have a kid. Which then, sparked a retort from my other friend stating that taking care of a pet is far easier than taking care of a kid.
I chuckle at the thought of comparing kids to pets because although kids are humans too, we don’t really treat them like one all the time. Like when my daughter runs away with something she isn’t really supposed to have. I start out by saying to her “Miss K, please come here.” If she doesn’t come after multiple times of asking it turns into a “Miss K, come!” I don’t know when my daughter became a dog, but she is the cutest dog I’ve ever seen.
I do believe that my daughter is a better cat though. She brings me things that she finds on the ground. Which normally isn’t such a big deal. BUT, you know when you let your cat out and then they come back later with a nice surprise at your doorstep? Ya, it’s the equivalent to that. But that’s not all! Like cats, I find that my daughter sleeps where she wants when she wants. Her spot of choice, like my cat, is my lap at the most inconvenient times.
My daughter loves playing. She loves chasing our cats around! As much as she loves playing with her toys I noticed something. You see? One day we were at the store and I had bought Miss K a new toy. It was such a cool toy. It had flashy lights and loud noises. We also bought our cats some plastic balls with bells on them. I had given Miss K her toy first. She LOVED it. Couldn’t get enough of it…until, that is, she saw one of those kitty toys roll across the floor. I am sad to admit, but my daughter enjoys cat toys more than her own. She will even chase the laser pointer around on the floor. She loved it more than the cats did!
So the next time that conversation comes up, debating if pets are a good way to see if you’re ready for kids, I’ll be sure to tell my friends how much it does compare. I think my daughter was a kitty in her past life because she sure does act like one. May I also state for the record her favorite word to say is “meow!”
