New Year New Me, Ramblings

Dear “Failures” of the Future

My dearest failures of the past, the present, and the future,

I am writing to you today as a fellow failure in life.  You see, I want you to know, you are not alone and, chances are, you are not a failure.  I guess that’s why I started this blog, besides getting readers.

You see, all my life, I have grown up thinking I was a failure.  Growing up with a sibling – let alone a twin can do that to you.  I mean, now we’re fine, but growing up I had always felt I was in competition with her.  Thinking back on it now makes me chuckle because I realize now that’s not the case.  But, I am here to tell you, readers, you are not failures.

To the single mom (or dad) that is at their wits end because they are having a hard time juggling between their children and work, school, life – do not fear.  You may be going through hard times right now, but you are not a failure.  Do you want to know how a person sitting behind a laptop screen knows that?  It’s easy enough.  You get up every day and you fight for the well-being of yourself and your children.  You love your children with all your might.  You do what it takes.  Although it my be hard now, keep fighting.  It gets better.

To the working parents who feel guilty because they are always working and have no time for their children.  You work so hard to provide for your children and they understand.  You are providing them with a life that only you can give them.  Even if you’re struggling, even if they don’t always show it – they are happy.  That doesn’t seem like a failure to me.

To the college student who doesn’t feel like their grades are high enough – college is hard.  I get that.  Keep fighting, studying, working.  You may not be getting amazing grades, but hey, you’re in college.  You are continuing your education.  You are striving to make your dreams a reality.

The feeling of failure is an amazing thing.  You know why?  It can be proved wrong.  When that feeling of utter defeat starts creeping over your body, you get back up and push through it.  You prove to that feeling, your peers, and yourself that you were not born to fail.  Sure, there will be bumps in the way, but each time you fail, you are one step closer to succeeding.

Remember that.
